Why AI Optimization Without Direction Is Dangerous
Many companies are optimizing with AI without first clarifying where they actually want to go. AI amplifies what's already there – and that's what makes it so dangerous.
Many companies are currently optimizing with AI.
Processes are getting faster. Workflows more efficient. Costs are dropping.
On paper, this looks good.
Unfortunately, this is exactly where a thinking error occurs.
Because the real problem isn’t the technology.
It’s the direction.
AI amplifies what’s already there.
It accelerates decisions. It scales structures. It makes existing logic more effective.
And that’s exactly what makes it so dangerous.
Companies invest in AI without first clarifying where they actually want to go.
The discussion then revolves around tools, use cases, and potential.
But not around the crucial question:
Which business model should carry us into the future?
This question is often skipped.
Not out of carelessness. But out of pressure.
The market is loud. Competitors are active. Consultants show demos.
Activity feels like progress.
But activity is no substitute for direction.
Honestly, sometimes it’s even a good hiding place from it.
Without direction, AI becomes an optimization machine for the past.
You make existing things more efficient, even though it’s unclear whether they’ll still be relevant tomorrow.
That’s not bold.
That’s risky.
Many AI initiatives don’t fail spectacularly.
They run. They deliver results. They generate reports.
And yet the feeling remains:
Something isn’t clicking.
Not because the technology is bad.
But because it’s being applied in the wrong place.
Clarity comes before optimization.
Unfortunately, this is often confused.
Clarity doesn’t mean having all the answers.
Clarity means asking the right question before investing.
For example:
Which decisions do we want to make better in the future than we do today?
Only then does AI go from being an end in itself to being a lever.
Everything else is well-intentioned efficiency.
And that can get expensive.
